The first level of violence was violence against your neighbor. The souls were placed in the Bloody River Phlegethon. Souls that committed violence against their neighbors were evil tyrants or people who made battle or war on countries and people around them. These souls were punished in two ways. They were smothered under the boiling hot River of Blood and centaurs stabbed them with spears and shot them with arrows when they tried to rise from the river.
The second level of violence was violence against yourself. The souls were placed in the Wood of Suicides. These souls were those who destroyed their bodies and were made into trees. Their punishment since they destroyed their bodies was to be denied any resemblance to a body in Hell. Their substance became wood. Their leaves were constantly eaten by Harpies which destroy everything. When the leaves were plucked, the trees bleed and this was the only time that the souls could speak. The leaves would heal and grow back and the Harpies would pluck them again forever.
The third leve of violence was violence again God, Art and Nature. These souls were banished to the Burning Sands. Blasphemers, Sodomites, and Usurers were placed in this circle. The Blasphemers were stretched out on the sand to feel the slow rain of fire from above. The Sodomites ran forever in circles in the heavy sand for their wrath against Nature. The Usurers huddled on the firey ground for their wrath against Art.
