Chapter Three: BRIEF SECTION

Chapter Three: Adalia's
I was awoken by some knocking on the door. More so, I was startled awake. And I finally got some shut eye too! Dazed and stumbling, I slept walked to the door and opened it just to have the life pumped back in me.
“Hey there Lil! You ready to…”
He stopped mid sentence once seeing how lethargic looking I must have been. He chucked at my expense. “Hey sleepyhead, get enough sleep?” I rubbed my eyes to hide the redness staining my cheek.
“I don’t know. What time is it?”
Like a gentleman, he pulled out his cell phone to check the time for me.
“It’s 7:10. You can’t really be tired this early can you? I mean, you’re not that old.”
My eyes immediately squared into the stink eye position and his sarcastic smirk replied back.
“No, I’m not tired because I’m an old fuddy-duddy. I actually just woke up from a nap.”
“A nap? What do you need a nap for? Didn’t you sleep at all during the night?”
My cheeks felt a little hot thinking of why I took a nap in the first place.
“No actually, I didn’t.”
His deep blue eyes widened and his lip jutted out a little. It kind of looked like he was genuinely worried about me, which made me so happy.
“Aw Lilly, why not?”
I really liked how my named sounded on his lips, especially when it was dripping with concern. The giddiness inside me over powered my embarrassment towards the reasons why I didn’t sleep, but I still maintained a level head. Level head in a sense that I knew I couldn’t just blurt out that he was the reason for my lack of sleep. I couldn’t be that open now could I? That would ruin any chance of continuing a relationship of any sort with him.
“I…had a lot on my mind.”
He tilted his head curiously at first but then his face changed to show that he came up with a conclusion.
“Oh, you’re still new to this apartment aren’t you? I almost for got about that. So yeah, you would have a lot to think about wouldn’t you?”
Another white lie escaped my lips. I wasn’t sure how I felt about my sudden readiness to lie now days.
“Yes, I do have tons of things to think about.”
I sort of dazed off thinking of the “tons of things” I actually had forgotten about. I was so wrapped up with Braxton that I forgot that I wasn’t even sleeping in my own bed. Well, it didn’t feel like my own just yet. I still had a lot to adjust to and I sort of skipped it all. Feelings of depression came swimming back once remembering why I was stuck in this ratty little apartment in the first place and how this was going to be my new life. A new life, I didn’t even know where to start or how to begin one.
Braxton must have confused my dazed, deep in thought expression with shear exhaustion.
“Wow Lil, don’t fall asleep on me!”
His voice snapped me back into reality and once again his smile made me forget everything I was contemplating.
“Sorry. I’m awake.”
“You better be!”
He chuckled while leaning closer, examining my face. “So are you ready to go or do I have to I carry you there?” My head turned away from his eyes, too humiliated to be seen by them.
“No, I can manage. Thank you.”

Chapter Two: BRIEF SECTION

Chapter Two: Oranga Glad I’m Here?
I tried so hard to muffle the gasp that was building up within my throat. His dark russet skin clung on to his strong muscular build. The wife beater defiantly suited him. It showed a lot of his beautiful body without showing too much. Dark black disarray of spikes flew through his large hand as he pushed it from his forehead to the back of his head. His bottom lip jutted out just a little, maybe because it was a tad fuller than his top lip. But what fascinated me most about him were his deep blue eyes. All his other features were dark but those hypnotic eyes. My heart began to pick up its pace the deeper I fell into them. Then my breath began to run short and air seemed limited all the sudden. But even though the butterflies were pushing me to the brink of nausea, I was unexplainably happy. I felt like my whole life was meant for this moment, like being alive didn’t matter until now. In a way, it seemed like this was the first day of my life. That’s a silly thought, I know, but I really couldn’t help but to feel that way. But just as quick as I fell into that euphoric state, I was just as fast snapping out of it when realizing I forgot my manors while tangling with my new consuming emotions.
“Eh, yes. Sorry. Hello. May I help you with something?”
His full breath-taking smile almost immediately fell down and his eyebrows pushed their way up.
“Oh, I’m sorry. Is this a bad time?”
His question took me aback a little.
“No, not at all! But, out of curiosity, why do you ask?”
I could feel his eyes studying my face, but I didn’t mind it so much.
“Your eyes, they look tired.”
He said as he pointed his finger and hovered over the top of my cheek, maybe deciding whether or not to touch the sleepiness he saw. But he quickly dropped his hand away from my face deciding it was a bad idea I suppose. “They’re a little puffy and red like you just woke up.” As soon as he said that, I could feel my face turn hot. I tried to make it appear as if I were swiping the “sleep” from my eyes, but really I was trying to hide the fact that I was burning red under my hands. I resented myself for thinking it was ok to cry before. I couldn’t think of a way to tell him that I wasn’t sleeping without drawling attention to the idea that I was crying instead. So I calmed myself down and bluffed my way out of it.
“Well, I’m awake now. So would you like to come in?”
His lips lifted back up to a smile. Not as big as the one before but just as inviting in my opinion.
“Yeah sure. Oh, by the way, these are for you. A little house-warming present from one neighbor to another.”
He lifted a basket high so that I might acknowledge his gift, then brought them back down to hand it over. I happily accepted the basket and asked him to come in and sit down. While he was making himself comfy on my couch, I put the basket down on my kitchen table and peered inside its contents. I could feel the edges of my lips edge upward when seeing the all to familiar fruits inside.
“Sunkist Oranges”
I mumbled to myself. It was meant for only me to hear but I must have mumbled it a little to loud.
“Sun kissed whata what?”
I turned back a little startled to hear him reply to my verbal thought bubble, but laughed a little at his word jumble.
“These oranges, I was referring to type they are.”
His eyes looked perplexingly at the basket resting on the table.
“So those oranges are Sun kissed oranges. Kinda like clementine’s are a type of orange?”
I muffled the giggle not wanting to seem like I was laughing at him or anything. But he was so cute the way he was showing interest in orange types.
“They’re Sunkist, not Sun kissed.”
I made sure I put the emphases on the endings so that he could hear the difference between the d and the t. “And yes and no, it’s kind of like how clementine’s are a type of orange but Sunkist is more so of a brand rather than a type.”
He nodded his head, acting like he was genuinely interested in this conversation.
“So it’s Sunkist. Not Sun kissed.”
“Yes. That is correct.”
He turned his head away from to stare off into space to mumble his own thought bubble, to which I assume I wasn’t supposed to hear.
“I think I like my version better.”
COMMENTS:
- I like his version better too. 8D ORANGES. THAT ARE SUNKISSED. Now all I can think of is like, a person who blazes like anything leaning down to kiss an orange. Which is just cute, you know? Also. In my situation. I woulda jumped him on the couch. Like. Yeah. Just Yeah. -Hannah
-The title thoroughly amuses me. And I like the orange thing, which I think is the whole point. And I want to know what happens. I'm assuming they fall in love. -Briana

Chapter One: BREIF SECTION

I noticed two doors on either side of my new home. I could feel myself inching closer to the door nearest to the kitchen. I swung the door open, saw a pale creature with in the darkness, and in terror, quickly flicked on the lights.
“Reflection…”
My words echoed in the little bathroom. I stared at myself in the mirror for a few minutes, letting my heart beat return to normal pace. My bright green eyes, still wide with surprise and stupidity, flickered off and on my pale reflection. I looked like a monster that had just seen daylight, with my dark brown hair drying into its thick waves, creating what looked like the mane of the beast. Within the cabinet that also functioned as a mirror, rested a bunch of feminine beauty and hygienic products, and, of course, on the very top was my brush. I grabbed that and started to drag it through my messy tangles while exploring the rest of the bathroom. It didn’t consist much of anything out of the ordinary, just a few of my shampoo bottles and rolls of toilet paper that kept this tiny bathroom company.
Once done exploring the little lady’s room, I rushed my way over to the other side of the apartment to check out what’s behind door number two. I already had a pretty good hunch that it was going to be the bedroom. The lights were dimmer than I expected. I slowly scanned my bedchamber to take in how the dressers lined the walls and how the night stands stood independently on each side of the queen size bed. I had no real desire to check if my clothes were in the dressers or not. I couldn’t find a desire to do anything at all actually. With a small crash, my brush left my hand and landed on one of the dressers. My body threw itself on top of the mattress, head first to the pillows. The anxiousness that one filled my body now dimmed to lifelessness. I fell limp on this bed that only felt to eager to swallow me whole. Unexpectedly, my vision became blurred as I realized that tears were welling up in my eyes. But I didn’t feel the need to hide them all alone in this empty apartment. So I let them spill over my checks in hopes that maybe I could cry myself to sleep tonight, and wondered if I would cry myself to sleep every night.
But not four seconds after embracing the thought of tears, a knock rang out through my minuscule apartment. With a grunt of frustration and a quick wipe of tears to my sleeve, I managed to roll off the bed and make it out side the door. I was thinking that maybe I would ignore it and let them believe this insignificant living space was empty. I pushed the curtains away from the window only to see drops of water rushing down the glass. I envied the window. At least it didn’t have to hide the water stains it maintained. I was about to go back to my room to find some peace, but whoever was knocking was relentless. I managed to yell, “I’m coming!” before the knocking drove me insane. Inside my head, I prepared an angry speech to this unwanted visitor saying how much I just wanted to be alone and how they could piss off. But as soon as I opened the door, I lost all train of thought. A strong, musical, male voice sang out in this vacant apartment and his full lips stretched out to a warm inviting smile.
“Hey there neighbor.”
