Hazel Dormouse Muscardinus avellanarius

Peaceful Creature
In the forest of England
A little head peeps out of a knot-hole
With its small size and innocent eyes
One would think it is a mouse
But when the creature leaves the knot-hole
One would be able to realize it is not a mouse
For it has a furry tail
The creature was a dormouse
It is like a mouse
But has a furry tail
And is considered more attractive
For it is not a pest
The little dormouse runs up a tree
And grabs a hazelnut with its mouth
And runs back into the knot-hole
To eat the hazelnut
Then it curls into a ball
And falls asleep

As peaceful as can be

A Warrior’s Love

My very best friend, oh, my dear true love
Your beautiful eyes shine like the bright sun
We sit in the forest and watch the dove
And when it flies away we go have fun
Your pretty voice is like a violin
We laugh as we watch a baby red fox
I just can’t believe the love I’m in
We watch the silly fox chew on a sock
But sadly I must go to deadly war
To save my friends from evil slavery
My dear love, I won’t be away too far
If I die it will be in bravery
I hope that one day again we will meet
And hopefully I won’t be in defeat

My Gerbils
Amethyst and Mayflower
My wonderful little gerbils
You were more than just pets
You were my friends
My babies
My companions
When I was upset or stressed
You cheered me up
When I was lonely or depressed
You were always there
I’ll always love you
No matter what happens

But alas, the time has come
For us to go our own ways
The time came too quickly
My heart could not bear
I’ll really miss you
My furry little friends
Not around to play with anymore
I’ll have a blue Christmas
Without you
Though you may be gone
From this Earth
You will always live on
In my heart

Forbidden Love

From the day I first saw him
I knew that I was in love
He said his name was Tim
As he showed me two turtle doves

Oh, how sweet he was
He didn’t care that he was supposed to hate me
Because of his country’s laws;
He wanted me to be free

The times were hard
During World War Two
He hid our love from the Nazi guards
Because I was a Jew

He was my German friend
Who loved to go to feasts
Hopefully the war will end
And we could live in peace

But this was not to be
For I was eventually captured
He tried to help me flee
But I was recaptured

As I await my execution
I wished that I was free
Hopefully Tim will find a solution
And come rescue me
