Project Proposal with Rubric out of 100 points: Melissa Velez and Ashanti Clark: We chose to work with each other on the endings to our independent project. Together, we are compiling footage and interviews of people [both homosexual and heterosexual] and of their views on the "Love Knows No Gender" movement. This movement is supposed to teach tolerance of homosexuality as well as the knowledge that love truly knows no gender, race, or direction. Together we are truly a team of tolerance, Melissa is heterosexual and Ashanti is homosexual. And somehow...we manage to TOLERATE each other.! Anyway, welcome to our page. Have Fun.!

But there’s something one should know,
Love Knows No Gender.
One of life’s most enticing splendors,
It doesn’t matter the beau,
Love Can Be So True and Tender.
No matter who is your heart mender,
Or who picks up the pieces to sew,
Love Knows No Gender.
Whether they be masculine or slender,
The one who keeps you mellow,
Love Can Be So True and Tender.
A lover or just a shoulder lender,
Who listens to all your woes
Love Knows No Gender.
They’ve come from an inspiring sender
Your personal angel and halo
And Love Can Be So True and Tender Love Knows No Gender.
Story By: Ashanti Clark, a freelance journalist. Los Angeles, CALIFORNIA – In the early hours of the morning, a homosexual couple were murdered in their bed as they lie sleeping. James Patterson, 31, and his life partner, Stephen Jones, 34, were each shot twice; once in the head and once in the heart. Kingston Ringgold, 65, the couple’s homophobic neighbor confessed to shooting the peaceful couple. “They were always cheerful and gardening together,” Ringgold said, “it was despicable.” As the police arrested Ringgold, he shouted anti-gay slurs at the news media that crowded behind police tape to get full coverage on the story.Ringgold, who lived alone, had thousands of Confederate flags within his home, including four extremely large ones on his front lawn and one on the back of his pickup truck.
Patterson and Jones had been life partners for more than 10 years. Stephen Jones’s mother, Sue chose to give us a statement. “They were going to get married after Proposition 8 was stopped,” she said, “this is not right. It’s just not right!”
Thousands of people from the LGBTQ community have died because of anti-gay hate crimes. In 2007, the United States had a total of 14,471 anti-gay hate crimes.
As of 2009, California has racked up about 14 anti-gay hate crimes and 25 racial hate crimes. In only three months of the New Year, California is the only state dealing with hate crimes.

Presentations/Celebration will occur on Friday, May 1.
Final Comments/Self-Evaluation: Melissa Velez: I hope that people really get the message that we are
trying to convey here in our project and presentations. And although I
won't sit here and say that it's okay to be gay but it's also not okay to
commit bias crimes. We have to learn that people have control over their
own lives and you can't change the way people feel about being with the
same sex. So, if people just learn how to worry about their own lives and not
everyone else's than the world would be a better place.
Ashanti Clark: I agree completely with Melissa. We should all worry about
ourselves instead of what everyone else is doing and how they are living their
lives. The most we can do as people is worry about ourselves instead of
yelling at everyone else about what they do.
Together: All in all, we feel as though we worked as hard as we could and got
as much information as we could about this project. We hope that if you do not
agree with our views/opinions of the "Love Knows No Gender" movement, that you
do not judge us nor will you judge anyone else but yourself.
